GIF to Animated WebP
Animated WebP compresses better than GIF, with a fuller color range instead of a 256-color palette. Drop in a GIF and get a WebP you can use on websites and in apps that support it. Encoding uses a WebAssembly build of libwebp inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
How it works
- 1. Drop your GIF onto the stage or use the file picker.
- 2. Pick a quality preset, resize, or set a target file size.
- 3. Encode locally and download the WEBP file to your device.
Questions
- Where can I use an animated WebP?
- Every modern browser displays it, and most websites and apps accept it. Some older chat apps and forums insist on a literal .gif file, so check the destination first.
- Will the WebP look better than my GIF?
- It can't add detail the GIF has already lost, but it avoids further palette reduction and usually produces a smaller file at comparable quality.
