GIF to Animated AVIF
AVIF's modern compression usually beats both GIF and WebP on file size. No browser can encode animated AVIF locally yet, so this is one of the tools on Framimo that isn't purely local: you edit in the browser as usual, then explicitly opt in to a server round trip for the final encode. Your source is deleted from our server automatically once the export finishes.
How it works
- 1. Drop your GIF onto the stage or use the file picker.
- 2. Pick a quality preset, resize, or set a target file size.
- 3. Confirm server processing when prompted, then download the animated AVIF.
Questions
- Why does this one need a server?
- No browser exposes an encoder for animated AVIF yet. We send your edited frames to our server to encode them with a real AVIF encoder, then delete them automatically after your download.
- Is my GIF kept?
- Only after you explicitly start server processing, and only for as long as the encode takes. If you'd rather everything stay on your device, use GIF to WebP or GIF to MP4, which encode locally.
